What you missed that night in NHL, NFL, and NBA
Dusseldorf While most Europeans are asleep, the North American professional leagues are busy. What happened that night in American football, basketball and ice hockey. Today among other things: Jakob Johnson’s winning streak and the Patriots continue.
Ice hockey: Rams also lose with the Packers
The Green Bay Packers won the NFL top game against the Los Angeles Rams. Also thanks to some good scenes from Equanimeous St. Brown, the Packers scored a 36:28 on Sunday against the star ensemble from Los Angeles, in which Odell Beckham Jr. scored his first touchdown, but overall remained pale for his new team. Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers had another strong game despite a broken toe, two touchdown passes and the first touchdown himself. St. Brown caught a pass for seven yards and had strong scenes in the special teams.
The ambitious Rams have already suffered their third defeat in a row and are slowly but surely sliding into a crisis. The playoffs – and thus also the dream of a Super Bowl participation in their own stadium – are not in acute danger for the team. “We have guys who are just too good to lose games like that and lose in a row,” complained Rams defender Jalen Ramsey.
Football: Patriots and Johnson take sixth win in a row
The New England Patriots remain the hottest team in the NFL. The team around fullback Jakob Johnson from Stuttgart also defeated the last strong Tennessee Titans on Sunday by a clear 36:13 and now has six wins in a row – no other team in the National Football League has been so successful in recent weeks. With their eighth win of the season, the Patriots in the AFC East again overtook the Buffalo Bills, who presented their victory on Thursday, and continue to have the best starting position for the playoffs. For the Titans, the bankruptcy was the second in a row, the six games before they had won all.
Positive for the Titans was the defeat of the Indianapolis Colts to Super Bowl champion Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The Colts were in the meantime 17: 7, but ultimately had nothing to oppose the team around Tom Brady and could not increase the pressure on the Titans in the AFC South by 31:38. With the Buccaneers, Leonard Fournette had an outstanding performance with four touchdowns.
The day was unpleasant for Cam Newton. At 10:33 the Carolina Panthers against the Miami Dolphins, the quarterback had to bench in the last quarter after making only five of 21 passes to a teammate and allowing himself two interceptions. It was the fourth win in a row for the Dolphins – only the Kansas City Chiefs and the Patriots are better.
Basketball: Curry towers in Warriors win over Clippers
NBA record champions Boston Celtics found their way back to winning ways even without the German national basketball player Dennis Schröder, who had an ankle injuries. After two defeats, the Celtics prevailed at the Toronto Raptors with 109: 97, Schröder was absent due to a sprained right ankle. With the Raptors, Isaac Bonga was unsuccessful in eleven minutes.
National player Isaiah Hartenstein suffered a significant defeat with the Los Angeles Clippers. Against the Golden State Warriors with the dazzling super star Stephen Curry, the Californians lost 90: 105. While Hartenstein got six points and five rebounds, Curry excelled with 33 points. The Warriors lead the North American professional league with 18 wins from 20 games.
Giannis Antetokounmpo led defending champion Milwaukee Bucks with a double-double (26 points, 13 rebounds) at 118: 100 at the Indiana Pacers for the seventh win in a row. LeBron James was also in excellent shape. The 36-year-old led the Los Angeles Lakers with 33 points to a 110-106 against the Detroit Pistons. His teammates Russell Westbrook (25 points) and Anthony Davis (24) also performed well.
Ice hockey: Sturm with assist in Wild victory
National player Nico Sturm celebrated the third win in a row with Minnesota Wild in the North American professional ice hockey league NHL. In the 4-2 home win over champions Tampa Bay Lightning, the 26-year-old native of Augsburg provided the template for the 1-0. For Sturm it was the ninth scorer point of the season, he scored one point in each of the last three games.
Minnesota continues to lead the Central Division with 29 points, Tampa Bay (25) is third in the Atlantic Division.
