Business Insider: US Navy tanker collides with object off Oman
A US Navy refueling tanker in the Middle East was damaged when it collided with an unknown object in the Arabian Sea, according to Business Insider with reference to the source.
A source in the US Navy told the publication that the USNS Big Horn collided with a stationary object in the Arabian Sea. “The US Navy fuel ship deployed to the Middle East was damaged on Monday, apparently after it crashed into something,” he said.
The tanker’s crew was not injured, the vessel was off the coast of Oman, but later it was towed to a nearby port. According to the publication, the ship was key to the US Fifth Fleet’s operations in the region.
Earlier, former assistant to the head of the Pentagon in the administration of US President George Bush Sr. Seth Cropsey said that the US Navy is losing combat potential and power due to problems with personnel, which makes plans to write off the current ships “extremely alarming.” He called on the US Congress to abandon this measure, as well as increase funding to repair the current ships and raise the salaries of sailors.
