Republican Rick Scott’s bill establishes that the reward would be paid from assets already seized from the Venezuelan
Republican Senator Rick Scott has introduced a bill, known as the Stop Maduro Act, to increase the reward for information leading to the arrest of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro (United Socialist Party of Venezuela, left) from $15 million to $100 million. Here’s the fullin English (PDF – 33 kB).
Scott’s proposal is that the amount be paid by the US government from assets already seized from Maduro. In September, the US seized a plane used by the Venezuelan president.
Senator Scott said that according to information from the US attorney in South Florida, seizures of Maduro’s assets already total US$450 million. The proposal has the support of other US congressmen such as Mario Diaz-Balart and Debbie Wasserman Schultz.
“In 2020, the Trump administration did the right thing by offering a reward of up to $15 million, but it’s time to up the ante. My Stop Maduro Act will increase the maximum reward”Scott declared.
USA
Relations between the United States and Venezuela have been deteriorating since the Venezuelan elections on July 28. The US was one of the first countries to contest the results released by the CNE (National Electoral Council) that gave the victory to Maduro.
The US government, which was already applying sanctions against Venezuela, intensified these measures after the Maduro regime failed to publish the voting records that attest to the result of the election.
