The president of the United States, Joe Biden, called this Monday the president of Israel, Isaac Herzog, to express their support and condolences on the first anniversary of the Hamas massacre on Israeli soil on October 7, which left some 1,200 dead and 251 kidnapped.

Biden, in his telephone conversation with Herzog, assured that his “thoughts are always with the families of the hostages, those killed and those injured by the Hamas attack on that dark day,” detailed a statement from the Israeli president’s office.
The US president also praised Herzog’s visit today to several communities near the Gaza border to “personally comfort the residents,” and asked him to extend his own words of comfort.
The Israeli president was present at the ceremony organized around Reim, where More than 350 people were killed at the Nova music festival, and in a speech he assured that Israel is doing everything possible to bring home the almost one hundred hostages still in the hands of Hamas..
“President Biden further noted that the atrocities committed by Hamas served as a reminder of the significant threat posed by Iran and its satellites in the region. He emphasized his deep love for Israel and his own support for Zionism,” the statement said.
The Israeli president, for his part, thanked Biden for his “steadfast support for Israel” since the outbreak of the war in Gaza, something that Israel “will never forget.”
While the war spreads to numerous fronts – an imminent attack by Israel against Iran is expected in retaliation for the one launched by Tehran last Tuesday -, The Israeli offensive in the Palestinian enclave remains entrenched, although the Army claims to have killed more than 17,000 Hamas fighters in the last yearas well as leaders of the group such as Ismail Haniyeh or Mohamed Deif.
