Senior US military officers reacted to the story of Guantanamo prisoner Majid Khan, accused of assisting the Al-Qaeda group (a terrorist organization banned in Russia), about the torture of the CIA during interrogations and called them “a stain on the moral foundations of America.” It is reported by The New-Yourk Times citing a letter of appeal for clemency signed by a family of eight jurors brought to Guantanamo Bay for sentencing.
The military condemned the actions of the American government after the details of the violence applied to suspects in the so-called “black points” (black sites) (underground CIA facilities – approx. “Lenta.ru”). They stressed that the bullying went beyond “approved improved interrogation techniques”. “These abuses had no practical intelligence value or any other tangible benefit to US interests. On the contrary, it is a stain on American morality; The treatment of Mr. Khan in the hands of American employees should be a source of shame for the US government, ”the letter said.
The officers sentenced an al-Qaeda supporter to 26 years in prison, the lowest term that a terrorism court can impose. His sentence has been running since the 2012 plea and is due to expire in 2038.
Also, due to the revealed facts, the jury members used the right of military justice and wrote a letter calling for a pardon, which could shorten the terms of Khan’s imprisonment. He reportedly worked with the US government to assist federal and military prosecutors. This will allow him to get out of prison in February 2021 or 2025.
Earlier, 41-year-old Majid Khan spoke for the first time about the brutal torture and bullying of US CIA investigators during interrogations. Despite his willingness to cooperate with the investigation, they hung him naked from a ceiling beam for several days, doused him with cold water and prevented him from sleeping, starved him and kept his head under water to choke him, and also subjected him to beatings and rapes.
