The bill, which includes a ban on Russian energy imports and allows the Joe Biden administration to punish Russian officials implicated in human rights abuses, was supported by 414 deputies.
The bill also directs to “use the voice and influence” of the United States to push for Russia’s suspension from the World Trade Organization.
Also, on Thursday, the US House of Representatives passed a bill that includes providing nearly $14 billion in aid to Ukraine.
The funds allocated under this provision are supposed to allow Kiev to protect the country’s electric grid, counter cyber attacks and acquire defensive weapons.
This massive financial package allocates $2.6 billion in humanitarian aid, and more than $1 billion to support Ukrainian refugees who have fled their country because of the war.
Aid to Ukraine was included in the US federal budget for 2022, which amounted to 1,500 billion dollars.
