The The United States House of Representatives, with a Republican majority, approved this Wednesday a resolution declaring the attorney general in contempt, Merrick Garland, for refusing to publish the recordings of the president, Joe Biden, in a case of mishandling of classified documents.
Hur claimed that Biden, 81, had “limited accuracy and memory” and that a jury would likely view him as “a nice, well-intentioned old man with a bad memory.”
In response, Republicans requested a recording of Hur’s interrogations of Biden, but the Justice Department rejected its release.

Republicans want the statement to focus on Biden’s age ahead of the November presidential election who will compete against his predecessor Donald Trump, 77 years old. And they estimate that the department’s rejection is politically motivated to protect the president.
But the department has already released transcripts of the statements and argues that Republicans want the tapes simply to use in campaign ads supporting Trump.
The president of the House of Representatives, Republican Mike Johnson, defended this Wednesday declaring Garland in contempt because considers it intolerable that the Department of Justice and the executive branch “hide information from Congress.”
Today’s vote ignores the constitutional separation of powers
Garland is the third prosecutor in US history held in contempt by Congress, but he will hardly be prosecuted because the Department of Justice must decide later whether to follow him up and he leads that cabinet.
CNN has also sued the Administration to access the recording of Biden’s interrogation.
