America will not stand aside from the threat posed by North Korea. This was stated on October 5 by US Ambassador to the UN Linda Thomas-Greenfield during a meeting of the UN Security Council (SC), which was broadcast on official website world organization.
“We will not tolerate accusatory assessments of our defensive actions in response to the threats of the DPRK. Despite the lack of engagement from North Korea, the US remains open to dialogue and diplomacy. At the same time, the United States will not sit idly by if the DPRK directly threatens us, our allies and the whole world,” said Thomas-Greenfield.
She stressed that differences between the countries should not prevent them from uniting in response to the provocations of the DPRK. The permanent representative indicated that the United States is definitely not ready to put up with the actions of North Korea and with the accusations against it after “defensively responding to threats from the DPRK.”
Earlier, on October 5, the United States and South Korea conducted a joint launch of four surface-to-surface missiles. These exercises were the response of countries to the launch of a ballistic projectile by North Korea.
The Yonhap News Agency reported on the launch of a North Korean ballistic missile on October 4. The projectile was fired towards the Sea of Japan and flew over the territory of the Pacific Ocean. The rocket covered 4.6 thousand km with a maximum flight altitude of 1 thousand km.
Then in Japan, an emergency warning system went off due to the launch of a projectile. The Japanese authorities urged residents of the northern regions of the country to evacuate. The government of the country convened the National Security Council.
On October 4, Associate Professor of the Far Eastern Federal University, Candidate of Political Sciences Andrey Gubin expressed the opinion that the missile fired by the DPRK was hardly aimed at intimidating Japan. According to Gubin, the flight path proves its ability to reach US military facilities located in the Asia-Pacific region.
