In a hypothetical new duel in the US elections between Donald Trump and Joe Biden in 2024, the Republican would win with 44% of the vote, against 39% of the Democratic president. This is what emerges from a poll conducted by Emerson college, cited by The Hill, according to which 12% of respondents replied that they would vote for someone else. Already in May a similar poll attributed 44% of the votes to Trump, but at the time Biden could count on 42% of the votes.
Meanwhile, the president of the United States returns to appeal to the Americans to elect Democratic candidates in the November elections to overturn the Supreme Court ruling on abortion. In a virtual meeting with a dozen Democratic governors, Biden admitted that there are currently not enough votes in the Senate to suspend the filibuster rules that would allow Democrats to overrule the Roe vs. Wade, which legalized abortion and which was rejected by the court, in a federal law.
“The choice is clear – the president said – either we will elect federal senators and representatives who will codify the Roe or the Republicans will try to ban abortion at the national level”.
“The filibuster shouldn’t hinder our ability” to change the rules in the Senate to codify the Roe, “and right now we don’t have the votes in the Senate,” admitted Biden. Then, the president returned to define the ruling of the Supreme Court a week ago “a terrible and extreme decision, in my opinion, which endangers lives, I share the indignation of public opinion for this extremist court”.
