US drug regulator approves ‘vaccine mix’
The US drug regulator FDA has approved the use of several vaccines for booster shots. Americans can get both Pfizer/BioNTech, Moderna and Janssen as a third shot, regardless of which vaccine they have been vaccinated with previously.
‘Mixing’ vaccines seems to have a beneficial effect. Recent research shows that Americans who originally received a Janssen vaccine have a much stronger immune response to Covid-19 after a booster shot with Moderna or Pfizer/BioNTech than after a booster with Janssen.
For the time being, the third injections are for people over 65 and Americans who belong to a risk group.
Latvia becomes first EU country back in lockdown
Latvia is again in lockdown for four weeks in the fight against the corona virus. It is the first EU country to go back into lockdown.
Shops and the catering industry are closed and people are only allowed to leave the house from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. with an urgent reason. The restrictions also apply to vaccinated people. About 54 percent of the population has been vaccinated against the corona virus.
There are no special travel restrictions in effect. Latvia sees the risk of infection mainly in its own country and considers foreign countries to be less risky.
