PhoneArena: Apple may be forced to abandon partners from China
Apple may be forced to break contracts with some Chinese partners. About this reports PhoneArena edition.
Chairman of the Committee on the Communist Party of China in the US House of Representatives John Moolenar sent a memorandum to the country’s Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin requesting that BOE and Tianma Microelectronics be included in the sanctions list. According to media journalists, BOE produces screens for the iPhone, and the loss of an important supplier could cause problems for Apple.
Moolenar said that BOE and Tianma Microelectronics also carry out military orders for the Chinese authorities. According to the politician, cooperation between American corporations and Chinese enterprises threatens the national security of the United States. If BOE does fall under sanctions, Apple will be forced to stop doing business with it.
PhoneArena specialists noted that BOE should start producing front panels for the iPhone SE 4, which will be released in early 2025. If Apple has to change suppliers, the production of the smartphone may slow down and its cost may rise. “If the Department of Defense blacklisted BOE, the strategy to reduce production costs would be in jeopardy,” the authors concluded.
Earlier, Morgan Stanley analysts assessed the popularity of the iPhone 16. According to them, the new generation of smartphones turned out to be the least popular over the past five years.
