US House of Representatives approves bill to ban oil and gas imports from Russia
The House of Representatives of the US Congress approved a bill to ban energy imports from Russia. In addition, she decided to suspend Russia’s participation in the World Trade Organization (WTO), reports TASS.
415 congressmen supported the initiative, 17 voted against. The document states that “there should be a ban on the import into the United States” of energy carriers from Russia, including oil and gas. In addition, US officials were instructed to consider actions “to suspend Russia’s participation in the WTO.” However, it is not yet known when the bill will be considered by the US Senate.
Earlier, Reuters announced plans of the European Union to gradually phase out gas, oil and coal from Russia. The corresponding document is being developed for the summit of the leaders of the union in Versailles.
On March 8, US President Joe Biden signed a decree banning energy imports from Russia. Crude oil, oil products, petroleum fuels and oils, as well as products of their distillation, liquefied natural gas, coal and coal products were banned from importation into the United States.
