The evolution of cities in the 21st century is marked by the clear tension between the maintenance of local identity and the consequent protection of historic buildings and the necessary urban evolution to respond to the new needs of society. A complex balance that requires, to be successfully maintained, long-term vision, intelligent investment, regulatory agility and all the technical capacity and innovation available. That is, public-private collaboration, academic participation and active listening to society.
The rehabilitation of historic buildings is therefore revealed to be a challenge: how to maintain the soul of centuries-old places and, at the same time, introduce the necessary innovations to make them environmentally sustainable, accessible and comfortable?
How to rehabilitate this type of spaces? What special considerations must be taken into account? What public-private collaboration tools should be articulated to promote the rehabilitation of historic buildings? From an architectural point of view, what specific elements come into play when intervening in these buildings? How does the rehabilitation of historic buildings affect the social urban planning of cities? What success stories can be mentioned?
To answer these questions and reflect on them, ABC and ACCIONA will convene at this meeting, broadcast via streamingto experts such as Miguel Ángel García Valero, deputy director general of Historical Heritage of the Community of Madrid; Sigfrido Herráez, dean of the College of Architects of Madrid; Francisco Romero, Project Manager of the construction area of ACCIONA and Javier Ruiz Sánchez, doctor of architecture and professor of Urban Planning at the Polytechnic University of Madrid, with Mónica Arrizabalaga, editor of ABC, as moderator.
