Urban planning The Helsinki City Council decided to reopen the town plan of Stansvikinkallio for reassessment

According to the town plan approved in 2020, 1,200 new apartments would be built in the Stansvikinkallio area.

Helsinki launches a reassessment of the town plan of Stansvikinkallio in Kruunuvuorenranta and, if necessary, the preparation of an amendment to the town plan.

The final decision on the matter was made by the Helsinki City Council at its meeting at its meeting on Wednesday.

In connection with the town plan change, it is assessed whether it is justified to save the forest nature in the area more than planned, taking into account the effects on the natural environment and the accessibility of recreational areas and nearby forests.

At the same time, it is also assessed how the changes would affect the urban structure of Kruunuvuorenranta as a whole, housing production targets and regional forms of financing and management, land reservations already made, and other plans and commitments for the area.

The City Council was considering council initiatives from three different groups of city councilors: the Greens Amanda Pasasenthe Left Alliance Paavo Arhinmäki and the Coalition Mirita Saxbergin. They had taken council initiatives with the same content, stating that in order to safeguard forest nature and adequate recreational areas, residential blocks should be removed from the eastern part of the town plan area.

In addition, Pasanen’s initiative suggested that the valuable nature areas in the Stansvikinkallio area be protected as part of Helsinki’s new nature conservation program.

At its meeting, the city council considered the initiatives finalized.

Layout The fact that the town plan of the Stansvikinkallio area became final in November 2020 after the decision of the Supreme Administrative Court makes it exceptional to be re-evaluated.

According to the town plan, 1,200 new dwellings for about 2,000 inhabitants would be added to the Stansvikinkallio area.

After the approval of the town plan, it was recorded in Helsinki’s new city strategy in the autumn of 2021 that the already approved plan would be re-examined.

Prior to the adoption of the strategy, the Greens’ Pasanen, the Left Alliance’s Arhinmäki and the Coalition’s Saxberg took separate council initiatives, which the city council considered to be finalized at its meeting on Wednesday.
