Update: Responding to this recent report, Activision has shared new statements with which they seek to clarify a little the situation about what 2023 will represent for the saga of Call of Duty. In accordance with Schreierthe company mentioned the following:
“We have an exciting lineup of premium and free-to-play Call of Duty experiences for this year, next year, and beyond. Reports suggesting otherwise are incorrect. We look forward to sharing more details with you when the time is right.”
original note: A couple of weeks ago, Activision officially revealed the details of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2as well as the version next-gen from war zone. Although we barely have the information related to this year’s delivery, a recent report suggests that the new Call of Duty from 2023 will be running until 2024. In other words, for the first time in 2 decades, we won’t have a new game next year.
This report comes from jason schreierjournalist from Bloomberg who had the opportunity to talk with the people of Treyarch and Activision about him Call of Duty of 2023. Apparently, the purchase of microsoft It had nothing to do with the decision to delay this new title in the saga, but it was the low sales of Call of Duty: Vanguard which forced the executives of Activision to rethink its annual launch strategy.
According to the suits of Activisionare under the belief that consumers are receiving these new games in fairly short periods of time, so they have decided that the best thing for the future of the series will be to delay the CoD next year through 2024 and see how the market reacts to this shocking change. Apart from the above, the report makes no mention of this new title, except that it is being developed by Treyarch.
Within this same report it is also said that, to fill the void, Activision is “working on multiple free-to-play online projects for Call of Duty“, and from the way they mention it, it seems that said projects are completely unrelated to War zone 2.
Publisher’s note: I think it’s a good idea that the next Call of Duty are no longer coming out year after year. Not only will this allow the development team more time to refine the experience, but players should also not feel as fatigued with the franchise and its annual releases.
