A few days ago the rankings for access to the Faculty of Medicine were published: as expected, 3 out of 4 aspiring doctors were ‘rejected’. Out of the more than 65 thousand participants, only about 14 thousand have reached the goal. Now more than 50 thousand students are forced to switch to ‘plan B’: in addition to changing faculty or retrying the tests again, there is a third way. This is the appeal, an option that thanks to the legal support of Consulcesi has already allowed some students to enter the Faculty of Medicine despite not having passed the entrance test, reports the same Consulcesi, in a note.
In fact, just recently the Council of State, accepting the appeal presented by some students, allowed them to sign up permanently to the Faculty of Medicine and finally realize the dream of becoming a doctor. “It is an important victory against a ‘sick’ system, such as that of the closed numberwhich every year excludes tens of thousands of students who dream of wearing a white coat “, he points out Massimo Tortorella, president of Consulcesi. “Students who have bravely decided not to resign themselves to the negative results of a wrong selection system, which does not reward merit, can now reap the rewards and serenely continue their chosen academic path”, he adds.
Before the sentence, the applicants were enrolled in Medicine with reservations. This allowed them to fully follow the training program provided by the chosen faculty pending the formalization of their registration. Now, in admitting the appeal, the Council of State has positively assessed the brilliant academic path undertaken by the students. Thanks to the support of the Consulcesi lawyers, they proved with facts that their exclusion from the faculty had been a mistake. “This is why Consulcesi will not stop offering its support to all aspiring doctors excluded from the entrance test” Tortorella points out. Students who believe they are victims of a serious injustice can in fact contact the Consulcesi lawyers from the site who will offer them a advice on whether or not to initiate the appeal.
In the meantime – reads the note – Ministerial decree 1107/22 has been published which aims to reform, for the next academic year, the tests for admission to the Faculty of Medicine. The decree contains the new modalities of the selection test which will foresee a first test starting from April 2023 in the so-called Tolc modality (Test OnLine Cisia). However, the procedures related to the single national ranking, and the operating procedures with which it will be formed on the basis of the TOLC scores, will be governed by a subsequent provision falling within the competence of the Directorate General of the Ministry of the University.
What we know now – continues Consulesi – is that to participate in the Tolc tests it will be necessary to register on the cisiaonline.it portal. Cisia is the inter-university consortium of integrated systems for non-profit access, made up exclusively of state universities and supports universities in the creation and delivery of tests for the verification of knowledge functional to access to university courses. For the year 2023 the dates for the tests will be set respectively in the months of April and July, the calendar will be defined by November 2022 with a provision of the Directorate General of the ministry. The tests will be administered in presence, at the location chosen by the candidate at the time of enrollment, through the Cisia IT platform, in ad hoc workstations set up by the universities. Furthermore, the registration credentials of the portal will give candidates the opportunity to access exercises, training courses and guidance material, as well as the results of the tests carried out also in comparison with the aggregate results obtained by the other participants.
They will be able to access the Tolc – informs the note again – all those enrolled in the fourth or fifth year of a secondary school, as well as all those who have a secondary school diploma. The hope is that in this way, at least for the youngest, the criticalities and wastes of time due to the repetition of the old annual tests will be reduced and the chances of entering medicine will increase. “We have been waiting for a reform of the old system for a long time,” Tortorella points out. “The operating procedures and criteria on the basis of which the ranking will be drawn up are still unclear. Consulcesi will continue to follow carefully – he continues – every new update on the subject, always in the interest of aspiring doctors”. With the ‘Closed number’ service – concludes the note – Consulcesi has made available a free dedicated channel through which young people can report irregularities, report doubts and perplexities and promptly contact the Consulcesi lawyers for free advice.
