Abraham (Avi) Loeb, bestselling author and former chairman of the Department of Astronomy at Harvard, recently published an article in Scientific American in which he credits the creation of the universe to an advanced technological civilization. According to the scientist, our universe was formed in a laboratory, by a “superior class of life forms”.
He was famous in the past for claiming that alien societies will not respond to our messages for 3,000 years and that Oumuamua may have been an interstellar spacecraft.

Needless to say, when it comes to all things alien, Loeb is a seasoned expert. Now he’s back with a more recent theory about our universe and alien life, and we must admit it’s a little scary.
“Since our universe has a flat figure with zero net energy, an advanced civilization could have developed a technology that created a baby universe out of nothing through a quantum tunnel,” wrote Loeb.
Loeb goes on to say that this theory would unify our religious and scientific beliefs and characterize us as a class C civilization.
What is it you might ask?
According to this classification, if and when our technology progresses to the point where we become independent of the Sun, we are in class B. If we can create our own baby universes in a laboratory (as our “possible creators” would have done), we are in class A.
As a civilization that depends on our host star, we are just a C on the civilization scale. However, class A, if we ever managed to become independent of the sun, we would become a B, and if we did successfully design our universes, we would also be on top.
So the theory basically assumes that a class A civilization created us. The article leaves numerous unanswered questions such as: Does the civilization that created us interfere in our lives and is it benevolent, bad or indifferent?
Perhaps Loeb will continue with another article describing our creators in more detail. In the meantime, we’ll consider your theory with a grain of salt.
