Trump absurdly claimed that Haley was responsible for the security arrangements in the takeover of the Congress building in 2021.
of the United States previous president Donald Trump apparently confused his primary rival Nikki Haley's to the former chairman of the House of Representatives to Nancy Pelosi.
Haley is a Republican, i.e. Trump's party mate. Pelosi is a Democrat, i.e. from the same camp as the sitting president Joe Biden.
At his campaign rally in the state of New Hampshire on Friday, Trump said Haley was responsible for the security arrangements at the US Capitol on January 6, 2021, when mobs incited by Trump stormed the Capitol to prevent Biden from confirming his election victory.
The incident is reported by, among others, a news channel Fox News and a news site focused on politics The Hill.
“By the way, you know they never tell the public about January 6th, Nikki Haley. Nikki Haley, Nikki Haley, you know—did you know that they destroyed all the records and all the evidence? All. They removed and destroyed everything, absolutely everything, for many reasons, such as Nikki Haley being in charge of security. We offered 10,000 people, soldiers, National Guard. Whatever they wanted, they refused them. They don't want to talk about it. They are a very dishonest people,” Trump said.
Trump has previously spoken in almost the same terms about Nancy Pelosi, who at the time of the events was still the president of the House of Representatives, i.e. the lower house of Congress. In reality, security arrangements were not even part of Pelosi's responsibility.
Haley commented on Trump's apparent confusion on Saturday, speculating, according to Fox News, that he is not “mentally fit” to handle the pressures of the presidency.
Trump is 77 years old and Biden, who is seeking a second term, is 80 years old. The verbal blunders of both have fueled suspicions that aging is starting to show in their logic. Biden's mistakes have been covered more than Trump's, and his falls have also attracted attention.
According to polls, a clearly larger proportion of voters consider Biden to be too old to be president than Trump.
“We need people most acutely,” Haley said in an interview with Fox News on Saturday with the news channel CNN by.
“I'm not saying that the case is comparable to Joe Biden, but I'm asking, are we really going to let two octogenarians run for president?”
Trump won the opening Republican primary in Iowa last Monday by a landslide. He received 51 percent of the vote, the governor of Florida Ron DeSantis 21 percent and former South Carolina governor and UN ambassador Haley 19 percent.
In the next primary election in New Hampshire next Tuesday, Haley is Trump's clearest challenger. In the polls, Trump's lead has been on average twenty percent. DeSantis' approval rating in New Hampshire appears to be falling to only about five percent.
