United States | Texas does not want to allow abortion even for women in danger of life – the state is suing the Biden administration

Nearly half of US states have either banned, are in the process of banning, or have severely restricted abortion rights since the Supreme Court decision.

of Texas state has sued the US administration over a new policy instructing hospitals to perform emergency abortions despite state law.

The news agencies Reuters and AFP and American channel CBS.

In a ruling last month, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that states can decide for themselves whether to allow abortion.

Since the decision, almost half of the US states have either banned, are in the process of banning, or have severely restricted the right to abortion. Texas has banned abortion in almost all circumstances.

The US Ministry of Social Affairs and Health, on the other hand, gave instructions on Monday, according to which abortions could be performed in a situation that threatens the life or health of the patient.

According to the ministry, it is not a new regulation, but mainly a reminder that the federal law protects the rights of a pregnant woman when her life is in danger.

of Texas Attorney General, Republican Ken Paxton claims that the President of the United States Joe Biden the administration would try to make every emergency room an abortion clinic.

Abortions were stopped in Texas after the state’s own Supreme Court decided that the abortion ban would go into effect in early July.

According to Paxton, federal law cannot compel doctors to perform abortions, so the Health Department’s directive would be against the law.

White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre says Paxton is an example of an extreme and radical Republican.

“It is impossible to think that this official would prevent women from receiving life-saving treatment at first aid stations, which is a right protected by American law,” said Jean-Pierre.

Last month, the US Supreme Court overturned the 1973 Roe v. Wade decision, on which the universal right to abortion at the federal level was based.

Correction 15.7. 11:46 a.m.: The guidelines of the US Department of Health and Human Services are not about health workers, but about health care providers who perform abortions. Ken Paxton is the Texas Attorney General, not the Texas Attorney General.
