United States Congressional Inquiry Committee: Trump tried to change the Secretary of Justice to get the election result he wanted

The hearing also revealed that at least five Republican representatives were trying to get a presidential pardon after helping Trump.

The United States Congressional Inquiry Committee on Thursday presented startling evidence of how the former president Donald Trump repeatedly tried to take advantage of the Ministry of Justice to stay in power.

Trump, for example, tried to persuade ministry leaders to overturn the result of the presidential election and even threatened with dismissal if they did not act on his will.

The New York Times writes that the incumbent President has committed equally unscrupulous acts in the recent Watergate scandal, which led to the Richard Nixonin get rid of.

“The president cannot and must not use the ministry to serve his own interests,” said a Republican member of the committee of inquiry Adam Kinzinger.

“And he must not use people for his political game, especially when he wants them to overthrow democracy.”

Committee the fifth hearing on Thursday heard how Trump was trying to replace the acting. Minister of Justice Jeffrey Rosen. Instead, Trump would have liked a supporter who worked at the ministry Jeffrey Clarkinwhich also spread false allegations of electoral fraud.

The project was unsuccessful because most of the ministry’s staff threatened to resign.

“The president wasn’t really interested in investigating the facts. He just wanted the Ministry of Justice to approve the stamp for lies, ”Kinzinger said.

At the hearing, Rosen said Trump claimed that the Department of Justice “did not do enough” to investigate election fraud. Trump was relentlessly connected to Rosen.

“Between December 23rd and January 3rd, the president either called me or met me practically every day. One or two exceptions were like Christmas Day. ”

Trumpin vt. Deputy Minister of Justice Richard Donoghue Trump, for his part, testified that Trump had instructed the Department of Justice “to say that they [vaalit] were fraudulent and leave the rest to me and Republican congressmen ”.

Rosen’s predecessor, Minister of Justice William Barr for his part, he said that no transfer of power might have come if he had not immediately begun investigating the allegations of fraud.

See Attorney General Jeffrey Rosen spoke in a video presented at the Capitol investigation hearing on June 13th.

Committee according to Trump and his allies browsed websites looking for any theory that would help keep the president in power.

Trump would also have liked to appoint a conspiracy theorist Sidney Powellin Special Representative to investigate electoral fraud. Powell acted as Trump’s lawyer and eagerly spread the lies about the “stolen” election, but later Trump’s legal team also took his distance.

In addition, the hearing revealed that at least five Republican representatives were trying to obtain a presidential pardon after helping Trump.

According to Trump’s assistant chief of staff, Republicans Matt Gaetz, Mo Brooks, Andy Biggs, Scott Perry and Louie Gohmert asked for prosecution after the capture of the Capitol.

Trump did nothing for pardon requests.

Committee of Inquiry plans to hold at least two more hearings in July.

These sessions are intended to explain in detail how violent rioters attacked the House of Congress and how Trump did nothing about it for three hours.
