The man who attacked the husband of the former leader of the US House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi with a hammer on the head, after breaking into her home in San Francisco, was sentenced this Friday to 30 years in prison.

The jury found the defendant guilty of assaulting a direct relative of a federal official and attempting to kidnap a high-ranking official, crimes for which he faced a maximum sentence of 50 years in prison.
DePape said his intrusion into the couple’s home in the affluent Pacific Heights neighborhood was part of a plot. to kidnap the former leader of the House and interrogate her about an alleged corrupt conspiracy led by her.

In a letter addressed to the court a few days before the sentence was announced, Nancy Pelosi asked the court for a “very long” sentence, while Paul Pelosi said in another letter that he still suffers consequences from what happened.
