US Secretary of State Antony Blinken made a surprise visit to kyiv on Thursdaycoinciding with the announcement of USA of a new military aid of almost 2,700 million dollars to Ukraine and your neighbors.

Blinken made the trip in secret, his second trip to kyiv since the start of the Russian invasion of Ukraine on February 24.
“The secretary really wanted to come on this trip now, because this is a very important time for Ukraine,” said a senior US official who accompanied Blinken.

On Wednesday, the Ukrainian president, Volodymyr Zelenskyclaimed that the army had recaptured several towns seized by Russian troops in the Kharkov region of northeastern Ukraine.
Ukrainian forces also launched a counteroffensive in the south of the country a week ago.
“All security assistance is about helping to ensure that Ukraine succeeds in the counteroffensive,” the official said on condition of anonymity.

Blinken’s visit to kyiv coincides with a new round of talks by the US Secretary of Defense, Lloyd Austinwith its partners at the Ramstein base in Germany.
Austin referred to the kyiv counter-offensive in southern Ukraine and said he could see the “demonstrable success” of Ukrainian forces on the ground.
The defense secretary announced a $675 million military aid package to Ukraine, including more weapons and ammunition for Himars rockets, which can hit targets 50 miles away.

Added to this direct aid to kyiv is another 2,000 million dollars announced by the US State Department for Ukraine and 18 of its neighbors. The money will come in the form of credits and subsidies.
