Reports from United Nations agencies announced that more than 23.7 million people in Afghanistan need urgent humanitarian assistance, while 15.8 million face food insecurity.
The United Nations World Food Program stated that it has provided more than 350,000 metric tons of food aid to the people of Afghanistan in 2023.
This comes at a time when Afghanistan is grappling with poverty and unemployment, coupled with the recent earthquakes in Herat province and the forced return of migrants from neighboring countries, especially Pakistan, which further exacerbates the needs of the Afghan people.
In addition, the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs said that the deportation of hundreds of thousands of illegal immigrants from Pakistan during the past days and weeks affected 1.3 million Afghan citizens, and deepened the returnee crisis inside most of the border crossings with Pakistan.
