According to the candidate, the Federal government “passed its hand” on the collection of the States to carry out demagoguery
The PT candidate for the government of São Paulo, Fernando Haddadsaid the Federal government should reimburse the States to maintain the ICMS ceiling (Tax on the Circulation of Goods and Services).
“Bolsonaro vetoed a provision of the Law that exempted ICMS from essential products and this veto was precisely about the reimbursement that should be made by the Union to the States. But Congress overrode the veto, which means that the Union, if it wants to maintain this limit, will have to reimburse the States”said Haddad.
The politician was questioned this Friday (19.Aug.2022) by the newspaper state of São Paulo in partnership with FAAP (Fundação Armando Alvares Penteado).
For the PT, the president Jair Bolsonaro (PL) was the “great responsible” by rising fuel and food prices. The former mayor of São Paulo said that the Chief Executive “passed hand” in the collection of States to make “demagogy”.
“We [oposição] we’ve been saying for 3 years: ‘you are wrong with Petrobras’ policy’ and he decides at the end of the government’s lights to take the money from the state government to do demagoguery that he didn’t want to do the whole government because of the election polls ”said the candidate.
In June, the Chief Executive sanctioned the bill that limits the ICMS (Tax on the Circulation of Goods and Services) on diesel, gasoline, electricity, communications and public transport.
The government, however, vetoed the compensation of states that zero the ICMS rate on diesel and gas – one of the strategies initially evaluated by the government to contain prices. In July, the veto was overturned by the National Congress, which established that the federal government will have to financially compensate entities that lose more than 5% of the tax collection in 2021.
