Unespa, the insurers’ association, appointed María José Gálvez as director of the sustainability area. This is a newly created position, so it “reflects the insurance sector’s commitment to sustainability in all its areas: environmental, social and governance (ESG).
Gálvez has a degree in Political Science from the Complutense University of Madrid with a specialty in International Studies, and has a master’s degree in Business Quality Management from the CEU Business School. The new director of Sustainability of Unespa will combine her position with the vice presidency of the Spanish Association of Executives and Directors EJE&CON.
Gálvez has more than 20 years of experience in the field of sustainability, socially responsible investment, business strategy, corporate reputation and institutional relations. From 2022 and until joining Unespa, the executive was director of ESG at EY Spain and, in the previous seven years, she was director of Sustainability at Bankia. She has also been vice president and member of the board of directors of Spainsif, the Spanish Sustainable and Responsible Investment Forum.
He has also taught at universities and business schools, at the San Pablo CEU University, the Catholic Institute of Business Administration and Management (ICADE), the Valencia Stock Market Studies Foundation and the School of Industrial Organization (EOI). In addition, she is the author of different publications on the inclusion of ESG criteria in the company.
