Unemployment The government’s employment measures divide opinions: “Now we have had to make painful decisions”

Euroisation is likely to have a particular impact on jobs in the municipal sector, such as substitutes for early childhood education, education and sports services, says Jukka Haapakoski, Executive Director of the Central Organization of the Unemployed.

“This is mainly a surgical battery, ”describes the executive director of the Central Organization of the Unemployed Jukka Haapakoski employment measures announced by the government on Friday.

“At the forefront is the idea that the painful decisions that have been avoided so far have now had to be made.”

One of the reforms announced by the government is to link the receipt of earnings-related daily allowance to future earnings and not to the number of hours worked.

Haapakoski predicts that the change, known as the euroisation, will particularly affect jobs in the municipal sector, such as substitutes for early childhood education, teaching and sports services, which have worked for 2-3 weeks.

“To this group [muutos] could bite negatively in such a way that they can no longer meet the employment condition as much as before. ”

Haapakoski thinks that one-night gig workers, such as the artist and musicians, can benefit from the reform.

Government the decision restricts the use of the 100% wage subsidy. According to Haapakoski, the Finnish Red Cross (SPR) and recycling centers have employed a lot with wage support.

“There has also been a lot of unpaid rehabilitative work in the recycling centers. Is it the case now that this group, which used to do that work for a fee, ends up doing it without pay? ” Haapakoski asks.

“Some are really in need of rehabilitation, but now people who are not in need of rehabilitation but are just missing a job are becoming clients of rehabilitative work.”

According to Haapakoski, the largest actors using wage subsidies have provided a more diverse service to the unemployed, and efforts have been made to build a path to the open labor market.

With change there is also a desire to patronize jobseekers. Haapakoski doubts that the job search obligation may reduce self-study.

“It may be wondering if it works as expected. However, self-study is a relatively good way to get into work if you can supplement your own skills. ”

According to the Central Chamber of Commerce, the EUR 110 million employment measures agreed by the government to strengthen public finances are insufficient.

“The measures now decided are a drop in the ocean in relation to the need for structural employment measures and the sustainability gap in public finances,” says the CEO of the Central Chamber of Commerce. Juho Romakkaniemi in the bulletin.

In the opinion of the Central Chamber of Commerce, the duration of earnings-related unemployment insurance should have been cut and staggered for everyone instead of just euroisation.

Finland The Federation of Student Unions (SYL), for its part, thanks the government in its press release for raising the income limits for student grants and investing in student mental health services.

“This was a good decision to help some 40,000 students each year whose income limits have led to the recovery of study grants. For an individual student, the increase means that there are more and more options for arranging a livelihood, working and gaining experience, ”says the Chairman of SYL Konstantin Kouzmitchev in the bulletin.
