The Executive Director of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Knowledge Foundation, Jamal bin Huwaireb, gave the opening speech in which he outlined the unique model provided by the UAE to address the repercussions of the health crisis, and the exceptional success of Expo 2020 Dubai, which represents one of the major global events held After the pandemic, he stressed that the UAE sends a message of hope to the world full of optimism that knowledge is embodied in cooperation, development, development and prosperity.
He said: “The Knowledge Summit, in its seventh session, continues to activate the knowledge movement around the world, which it started in 2014, in an effort to update and develop methodologies and mechanisms on which the process of production and dissemination of knowledge is based, to create a state of constructive discussion about the role of knowledge in protecting humanity from successive pandemics and challenges.
He added: “This year’s summit sheds light on all aspects of global challenges, such as climate change, food security and the fight against poverty, reconsidering the general legal landscape and formulating a perception about legal practices in the post-pandemic world, and the need to create better economic and environmental systems.”
A pivotal role
For her part, the Assistant Secretary-General of the United Nations and Assistant Director and Director of the Regional Office for Arab States at the United Nations Development Program, Dr. Khaleda Bouzar, praised, in her speech, the great success achieved by Expo 2020 Dubai, and the pivotal role played by the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Knowledge Foundation. She added: “We at the United Nations Development Program and the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Knowledge Foundation were keen to not stop our knowledge initiatives, believing that knowledge is the only way for humanity to confront dangers. We launched the results of the Global Knowledge Index for the years 2020 and 2021, and here we are today in a knowledge event. Globally, the Knowledge Summit in its seventh edition, we are launching the third edition of the Foresight Future of Knowledge Report. The report focuses on studying the transformational capabilities that enable countries to continue to grow in the face of shocks, and to preserve development gains.
The activities of the summit are scheduled to continue in attendance until tomorrow, March 15, followed by the transfer of the sessions to be held virtually and broadcast on the website over a period of 3 days (March 16, 17 and 18).
The launch of the “Knowledge Summit” comes within the framework of the UAE’s keenness to enhance the paths of transfer and dissemination of knowledge, and to highlight the opportunities and challenges of building knowledge societies in light of the fundamental transformations that occurred with the outbreak of the “Covid-19” pandemic. The summit focuses on presenting broad and in-depth discussions on a number of issues of common global interest and impact, as it brings together a group of experts, academics and decision makers from all over the world, to discuss present and future challenges from all sides, review opportunities and options provided by knowledge, and formulate effective solutions and tools. To enable countries to achieve their development plans within the framework of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
The summit will witness the review of the results of the Arab countries in the Global Knowledge Index for the year 2021, which is one of the important and qualitative initiatives, within the framework of the slow / long-term strategic partnership between the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Knowledge Foundation and the United Nations Development Program within the “Knowledge Project”.
In addition, the third edition of the “Foresight the Future of Knowledge” report will be launched, which reviews the future knowledge landscape and examines the differences between countries’ transformative capabilities in relation to major global risks, using big data over a period of two years, which helps provide new insights into the readiness of countries to face future risks.
It is worth noting that the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Knowledge Foundation aims to enhance and empower knowledge in the societies of the region and the world, as a main objective and action plan to build faster and more accurate solutions to health, environmental, economic and social challenges, and provide a better future and a clear path for sustainable development.
