Film success convinces Sony to invest in Uncharted.
Uncharted seems to have been a hit in the cinema, which prompted Sony Pictures boss Tom Rothman to open the doors to a film franchise entirely dedicated to the brand starring Nathan Drake.
“It is Presidents Day in America, but today we are open in most places in the world and we have another global triumph to celebrate. With over $ 100 million in box office gross worldwide in a single weekend and a 90% positive audience rating on Rotten Tomatoes, Uncharted is a successful new film franchise for the company.“
Rothman went on to say: “a big win for every single division of the company, as the film was our first major production completely closed since the advent of Covid, yet we persevered to complete a picture that audiences love and marketed and distributed it with strategic verve throughout. the world, despite the pandemic“.
“I want to thank all the wonderful directors, cast and crew, and especially our friends at PlayStation Studios and Sony Interactive Entertainment for their support. And, of course, I want to thank each of you for your creativity and dedication.“
Meanwhile, Drake’s famous voice actor, Nolan Northhas expressed interest in a role in any future Uncharted movie, joking that “Maybe someday they’ll find Drake’s long-lost father, at which point I’d be old enough“.
In addition to this, North also revealed some other elements of Naughty Dog’s games that he would have liked to see incorporated into the movies. Citing Uncharted 2, North said he’d like to see “the snow-capped mountains of Tibet, the lost city of Shambhala and Drake’s main love interest, Elena Fisher“.
