Although the critical reception of the film by Uncharted has been mixed, the new Sony film is off to a fantastic start, generating more than $100 million dollars during its first weekend internationally. Not bad for a film that cost nearly $120 million to make a reality.
As Collider mentions, between Friday the 18th and Sunday the 20th of February, Uncharted managed to raise $44 million dollars in the United States alone, and this figure is expected to increase to $52 million thanks to the holiday that President’s Day represents in this country. At a global level, we are talking about $107 million dollars, although it is important to mention that this feature film reached several countries, including Mexico, before February 18.
Considering that Uncharted will be released in China on March 14, it is clear that this film will be a great success at the box office. We are not talking about the levels seen in Spider-Man: No Way Home, but this is still impressive. In addition to Tom Holland, who plays Nathan Drake in this adaptation, the success of this film is also positive for Ruben Fleischer, the director, who has shown the potential to take the reins on shows like Zombieland and Venom.
Uncharted is already in theaters, you can check our review of this film here.
Editor’s Note:
Critical reception is one thing, but box office success is more important to Sony, and this shows that at least they are capable of creating a film that is entertaining for all audiences, even if its flaws are very evident.
