David Kimone of the key elements of the development of StarCraft 2 on Blizzardrevealed that its new team, Uncapped Games, is developing a new real-time strategy which will be presented during the Summer Game Fest 2024 and it will be a title capable of setting new standards, according to the author.
Kim was multiplayer lead on StarCraft 2, then left Blizzard to found the California-based Uncapped Games team, along with other developers who previously worked on StarCraft, Warcraft, Dawn of War, and Company of Heroes, funded in part by Tencent's Lightspeed Studios initiative.
It goes without saying that, with developers with such CVs at work, the new RTS in development looks decidedly interesting, and in fact Kim defines it as a game capable of representing a “paradigm shift” for the genre.
An RTS capable of revolutionizing the genre?
In a new documentary video, Kim announced the next presentation of this RTS, while remaining rather vague for the moment.
“Our game focuses on the core essence of this genre and brings players to the fun part of RTS faster than ever seen before.
“Players will define their own way of playing and focus on commanding fast, large-scale battles, and will be able to make moment-to-moment strategic decisions within each match, instead of waiting for the next fun moment.”
In essence, according to Kim it is an RTS capable of modifying the rhythm and sequence of events typical of a strategic game, in order to offer faster and more dynamic gameplay. The presentation is scheduled for June 7, 2024 during the Summer Game Fest, so we're waiting to find out what it is.
