Commissioner Michelle Bachelet says her meetings were not overseen by Chinese officials
The High Commissioner of UN (United Nations Organization) for Human Rights, Michelle Bachelet, said in an interview with journalists this Saturday (28.May.2022) that she asked China to avoid “arbitrary measures” in the campaign “anti-terrorist” that the authorities promote in the Xinjiang region.
The United States and other Western countries had said that there is a “genocide” and a systematic persecution of Muslim minorities, mainly the Uighurs, in the region.
The charges were denied by China. Depending on the country, what humanitarian organizations classify as “forced re-education camps” are professional training centers to keep the population away from “Separatism and Extreme Islam”.
THE commissioner said she spoke “quite frankly” with the communist leaders, eq.that the authorities of this Chinese region guaranteed to close with the centers.
The UN official also said that he raised the issue of the separation of the Uighur family during his meetings in Xinjiang. “We are aware of the number of people seeking news from their loved ones. This and other issues were raised with the authorities.”he said.
