UN Women starts in this Thursdayon Thursday (25) an international campaign against gender-based violence to mark the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women. According to the United Nations, Brazil is fifth on the list of countries with more gender crimes.
The actions will be carried out until December 10th, Human Rights Day. Since 1991, this campaign works to prevent and eliminate violence against women and girls. Meet the global agenda of the initiative.
Violence Sunaesthetics
During the covid-19 pandemic, the violence numbers Sunaesthetics soared in the world. UN Women report shows that two out of three women reported experiencing or knowing someone who suffers some type of violence. Only 10% reported the attacks. In Brazil, data from the Ministry of Women, Family and Human Rights reveal more than 100,000 cases of violence against women since the beginning of the pandemic.
According to Renata Rizzi, founder of the Utopiar initiative, a women’s clothing brand based in São Paulo that teaches textile techniques to women who have suffered violence Sunstatic, the number of people seeking help increased.
The project supports victims mainly in achieving financial independence and shelter. The initiative has already helped more than 60 women with the workshops and generated more than R$50,000 for the participants.
During the action of UN Women, the brand will revert sales to the non-governmental organization (NGO) Casa Mariás, which offers psychological and legal support and a secret shelter for people in situations of violence Sunaesthetics.
The company’s objective is to transform the lives of 5,000 women over the next ten years in the country, which ranks 5th among 83 nations with the highest number of crimes against women, according to the Map of Violence, prepared by Faculdade Latino- American Social Sciences.
