We are talking about a real Formula 1 engine, a wonderful gift for a fan.
Oh, oh, oh what a great sound the old Formula 1 blocks make. That alone can be a reason to buy this Formula 1 engine. With the current F1 cars it is different. Okay, the sound is not bad but not comparable to the ‘real’ work.
Formula 1 engine
The engines in use today are 1.6-litre V6 turbo engines with a hybrid KERS system. The performance is impressive, but has never captivated fans as much as the V8s, V10s and V12s. That was really fun. The engine now on offer is a 2.4 liter V8. Without turbos of course. It is an engine from Cosworth’s house and has been used by several teams. Think Minardi, Red Bull, Lotus and Toro Rosso.
It is completely unclear whether the colossus still works and what you can (and may) do with it. What we do know is that the motorcycle will be auctioned by Collecting Cars. Includes a four-wheel roller stand. Always useful.
Details
These F1 engines were built with aluminum alloy heads and came with a 98mm cylinder bore and 39.8mm piston stroke. They were capable of pumping out more than 915 horsepower and 300 lb-ft (407 Nm) of torque at their peak. It is also not clear whether all original (internal) parts are still on it. Think of the not unimportant pistons, for example.
The information associated with the auction does not provide insight into the history of the Formula 1 engine. Not even whether it was actually raced in Formula 1. That is a shame. All in all, it remains a nice accessory for your living room. Costs? At the moment, almost 15,000 has been offered for it. You still have a good five hours to bid, so act fast.
