The conflict between Russia and Ukraine is proving heavier than expected for the Volkswagen Group. And in particular for the Volkswagen brand, which due to the shortage of components was forced to anticipate the stop to production in Wolfsburg initially scheduled for next week. The German company had speculated to continue production this week, albeit to a lesser extent, but now it has changed its mind and has decided to reset it completely starting today, which means that the total stop to assembly operations will last two weeks.
On the microphones of Autonews, a spokesman for Volkswagen admitted that the situation it got worse faster than expected, for this reason the order has arrived to stop the assembly of new cars immediately. The models that will suffer the consequences of this decision are Golf, Tiguan and Touran, as well as Seat Tarraco, all produced in the Wolfsburg plant. For the German group, however, the troubles did not end there: recently the company also announced that the production of compact electric battery powered by VW, Audi and Cupra at the Zwickau plant has been suspended until next March 18. The only happy note comes from the production plant in Emdenwhere new vehicle assembly operations are proceeding smoothly and smoothly of any kind.
The situation is no better for the other Volkswagen Group brands. Audifor example, it has suspended production lines for the construction of the A4 and A5 models at the Ingolstadt plant, Germany, and those of the A6 and A7 models in Neckarsulm. PorscheInstead, it has ordered the construction of its Macan and Panamera models at the Leipzig site to stop until the end of the week, a different fate from that of the 911 production which is continuing in Zuffenhausen, near Stuttgart.
