Beyond 400 Russian mercenaries are in Kiev, under the orders of the Kremlin, to kill Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and its government, so that Moscow can take control. This is what the Times of London reveals. These are mercenaries of the Wagner group, led by the oligarch Yevgeny Prigozhin, very close to the Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin. The mercenaries would have left Africa five weeks ago, where they were engaged in other missions. Now their goal is to eliminate Zelensky, and 23 other government figures, in exchange for a hefty sum of money.
The Ukrainian government, writes the Times, received information on the mercenaries’ targets on Saturday morning. Shortly thereafter, Kiev ordered a tough 36-hour curfew to eliminate saboteurs from the city, warning civilians that they would be seen as Kremlin agents and risk being “liquidated” if found outside their homes.
According to the Times the mercenaries they are waiting for the green light from the Kremlin to hit the men on the listwhich also includes the Prime Minister of Ukraine, the entire cabinet, Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko and his brother Wladimir, both boxing champions who have become iconic frontline figures in the capital.
The mission would be pending ahead of today’s negotiations but, writes the Times, Russian President Vladimir Putin has no intention of reaching an agreement, brandishing the meeting as “smoke and mirrors”. Meanwhile Zelensky and the other targets are being tracked through their cell phones and the group claims to know where they are at all times.
A source familiar with the Wagner Group’s activities told the Times that between 2,000 and 4,000 mercenaries actually arrived in Ukraine in January, but with different missions: some were sent to the rebel-controlled regions of Donetsk and Luhansk in the east of the country, while the 400 charged with eliminating Zelensky headed to Kiev from Belarus.
