The invasion of Ukraine – despite the problems created for Russia by war-related sanctions – would appear to be good for Vladimir Putin’s popularity. Or at least this affirms a survey – the reliability of which is difficult to verify – conducted by the Russian company Vciom which reports a continuous increase in the approval rating of the Russian president’s work during the two weeks of the war. If before the outbreak of hostilities the percentage of Russians who approved of Putin’s action was 64.3%, the percentage had risen to 70.4% immediately after the invasion and this week would stand at 74.6%. The poll reported by Interfax shows a parallel increase in the confidence index towards Putin which rose to 77.4% from the pre-war 67.2%.
