Ukrainian tennis player Marta Kostyuk refused to shake hands with Belarusian athlete Alexandra Sosnovich after their match in the second round of the US Open (US Open) in doubles.
The game ended with a score of 6:1, 6:2 in favor of a pair of Ukrainian and Chinese Zhang Shuai.
Sosnovich also played in tandem with the Slovak Teresa Mikhalikova.
Earlier, on September 2, it was reported that Kostyuk refused to shake hands with the Belarusian athlete Victoria Azarenka after their match in the second round of the US Open. Instead of the traditional handshake, the girls touched the rackets.
Azarenka admitted that she was not surprised by such behavior of her opponent.
The game ended with the score 6:2, 6:3 in favor of the Belarusian tennis player.
The US Open, the last of the four Grand Slams of the year, runs from August 29 to September 11. The current winner of the tournament in the men’s singles is Russian Daniil Medvedev, in the women’s – Briton Emma Radukanu.
The total prize pool for the 2022 US Open will reach a record amount of more than $60 million.
