The ambassador of Ukraine in the Netherlands, Maksym Kononenko, has been fired. President Volodimir Zelensky’s office released that on Tuesday, without giving a reason.
Kononenko presented his credentials to King Willem-Alexander on February 16, at the start of his ambassadorship. Shortly after, Russia invaded his country. As ambassador he maintained contact with the Dutch cabinet.
Ambassador Kononenko met with a representative of the Ministry of Justice and Security on Monday. They talked about Ukrainian refugees in the Netherlands, Kononenko reported on Twitter.
An embassy spokeswoman declined to comment on the sudden departure.
