Ukraine’s presidential chief of staff, Andriy Yermak, confirmed from New York on Tuesday (24) that his country’s aspiration to join NATO is included in the so-called “Victory Plan” that President Volodymyr Zelensky will present to the United States and other allies.
“During my speech at the Council on Foreign Relations in New York, I noted that the Victory Plan contains both military and diplomatic components. NATO’s invitation to Ukraine is part of the Victory Plan,” Yermak wrote on his X social media account, as verified by EFE Agency.
Yermak also urged the alliance countries “not to pay attention to Russia’s threats of escalation” in the case of Ukraine’s accession, which has so far failed to obtain the firm commitment it sought to be admitted as a NATO member.
The inclusion of this request in the “Victory Plan” – a list of proposals to strengthen Ukraine’s position that Zelensky will present on Friday to US President Joe Biden before passing it on to Kiev’s other partners – was revealed by several media outlets citing sources familiar with the document.
“I call on our allies to increase and accelerate the delivery of military assistance packages,” Yermak told the conference, which is taking place on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York, according to a statement from the Ukrainian presidential office.
