The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine is preparing a draft law on the introduction of an additional tax for companies working with Russia. This was announced on March 21 by the People’s Deputy Yaroslav Zheleznyak on his page on the social network.
“If there is money and a desire to sponsor the aggressor’s military sphere, then money must be found to restore everything that he has destroyed in another country,” the parliamentarian wrote.
He did not provide other details.
Earlier on Monday, Russian and Ukrainian delegations began a new round of talks. On the same day, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that the degree of progress in the negotiations between Russia and Ukraine was not as desired, and “not as the dynamics of the development of the situation requires for the Ukrainian side.”
According to him, the organization of a meeting between the presidents of the Russian Federation and Ukraine, Vladimir Putin and Vladimir Zelensky, requires agreement on the possible results of the negotiations, while the parties have nothing to fix in this regard.
On March 18, Mikhail Podolyak, adviser to the head of the office of the President of Ukraine, said that negotiations between Kyiv and Moscow could last at least a few more weeks. According to him, the key issues of the talks include security guarantees, a ceasefire, the withdrawal of Russian troops and a political settlement of the disputed territories.
At the same time, the head of the Russian delegation at the talks with Ukraine, Vladimir Medinsky, said that the parties had brought their positions as close as possible on the topics of Ukraine’s neutral status and its non-participation in NATO.
In mid-February, due to the aggravation of the situation in the Donbass as a result of shelling by the Ukrainian military, the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics announced the evacuation of the civilian population to the Russian Federation and asked for recognition of independence.
On February 21, the President of the Russian Federation signed a corresponding decree. On February 24, Russia launched a special operation to protect the civilian population of Donbass. As Peskov clarified, the special operation has two goals – the demilitarization and denazification of Ukraine. According to him, both of these aspects pose a threat to the Russian state and people.
