Ukraine: Ivan Luca Vavassori had already escaped an attack
“The other day someone on the street in Kiev tried to stab me, but it went wrong. I’m fine.” It is one of the latest messages posted in first person by Ivan Luca Vavassori, the 29-year-old Italian former footballer who volunteered in the war in Ukraine and the fate of which this morning had received worrying news via social media. It was precisely following this attack that Ivan would have entrusted the management of his Instagram profile to others, through which he sent news about his exploits at the front to Italy. And it is on the same profile that more reassuring information on the fate of the Italian fighter arrived tonight.
In Domodossola Ivan has several relatives, starting with his maternal uncle David Sgarella, brother of Alessandra, the young man’s adoptive mother, known to have been the victim of a long kidnapping of the ‘Ndrangheta in 1998, and then died of illness in 2011. Domodossola is the headquarters of the Italsempione international shipping, a family business founded by the Sgarellas and of which he is currently managing director Pietro Vavassori, husband of Alessandra Sgarella and adoptive father of Ivan.
