Ukraine said on Friday (11) that Russia launched a missile attack from Ukrainian airspace towards Belarus in an attempt to draw that country into its military offensive on its territory. The Ukrainian Defense Ministry accused Russia of having attacked the Belarusian village of Kopani and that a military response from the neighboring country could take place as early as tonight.
Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko, a close ally of Vladimir Putin, has repeatedly denied that his country intends to participate in the offensive against Ukraine or has ever done so. The Belarusian Defense vehemently denied that there had been a missile attack on Kopani, which is close to the Ukrainian border, describing the report as false.
“The Ministry of Defense pointed out that the information released about the attacks on the territory of the Republic of Belarus is another provocation and an attempt to stir up Belarusian society,” the ministry’s press office said.
