“I have ordered my administration to impose sanctions on Nord Stream 2 Ag and its executives. These steps are another piece of our initial round of sanctions in response to Russia’s actions in Ukraine.” This was announced by Joe Biden with a statement released by the White House stating that “we will not hesitate to take other initiatives if Russia continues to escalate”. “With his actions, President Putin has provided the world with a huge incentive to move away from Russian gas and other forms of energy,” the US president said.
“I want to thank Chancellor Scholz for his close alliance and continued commitment to put Russia accountable for its actions” added Biden in the statement announcing the sanctions on the company Nord Stream 2 Ag which built the pipeline that connects Russia to Germany. The American president underlined how he worked closely with Berlin “coordinating our efforts to stop the pipeline in the event that Russia invades Ukraine”.
Biden then recalled that “yesterday, after further consultations between the two governments, Germany announced that it would stop the certification of the pipeline”.
