The head of the Servant of the People faction of the Verkhovna Rada, David Arakhamia, noted that Ukraine looks funny in the eyes of partners when special operations are discussed on a TV show. The politician said this on Wednesday, November 17, on the air of the Ukraine 24 TV channel.
On Wednesday, The Insider and Bellingcat (recognized in Russia by foreign agents), citing ex-employees of the main intelligence directorate of the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense, reported that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky personally approved an operation against 33 Russians who were planned to be lured into the country in the summer of 2020 and accused in involvement in the events in Donbass. For this, a false warning of an explosion was provided on board a passenger plane. The publications also note with reference to the “former operatives” that when they arrived at the president’s office in July last year to present the final report on the upcoming special operation, Zelensky was busy and the arrivals were redirected to a meeting with the head of his office, Andriy Yermak, who asked to postpone operation.
“Seriously, we just look funny when, as a country, I, as the head of a faction, high-ranking officials, deputies, journalists, you as politicians, sit on the air and talk about special operations. Well, some kind of nonsense. Let’s imagine that there is a CIA operation and senators, congressmen are sitting and telling each other this, ”Arahamia said.
According to the deputy, the Ukrainian authorities should have refrained from making any comments on this issue, “regardless of whether there was an operation or not.”
“And we would have closed the entire broadcast on this. And then we would have gone as expected – according to the law, ”explained the head of the pro-presidential parliamentary faction.
Earlier, on October 3, Zelensky expressed the opinion that in the case of the detention of 33 Russians in Belarus in July 2020, it is necessary to interrogate the ex-President of the country Petro Poroshenko, who, according to him, took part in this operation. In addition, the Ukrainian leader called this situation a “Russian operation” and added that he himself “in principle does not take part in Russian operations.”
In September, CNN, citing its sources, claimed that the United States supported last year’s operation by the Ukrainian special services, which were trying to lure Russians suspected of involvement in the events in Donbass through Belarus. Commenting on the publication, the press secretary of the Russian President Dmitry Peskov said that there are such traces. Later, the information of the American TV channel was confirmed by the FSB of Russia.
The Belarusian authorities announced the arrest of 33 Russians on July 29, 2020. The Investigative Committee of the country noted that the detainees were suspected of preparing riots in the republic. At the same time, according to the local special services, earlier information was received about the arrival in Belarus of “more than 200 militants to destabilize the situation during the election campaign.” Presidential elections were held in the country on August 9, 2020.
Later, Dmitry Peskov said that with a high degree of certainty it can be argued that the Russians detained in Belarus, employees of the private security company, were in transit in the country and missed their flight. The press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation emphasized that the detainees did not interfere and do not interfere in the internal affairs of Belarus.
Ukraine demanded the extradition of 28 citizens detained in Belarus in order to bring them to justice for crimes that, according to Kiev, were allegedly committed by them in Donbass. It was noted that 28 persons, nine of whom have Ukrainian citizenship, were declared suspicious under an article related to participation in a terrorist organization. The office of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine stated that it had applied to the Prosecutor General’s Office of Belarus with a request for the temporary arrest of the detainees and sent requests for the extradition of 28 of them.
On August 14, the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation announced the return to Russia of 32 of the 33 Russian citizens detained earlier in Belarus. The last Russian citizen detained in Minsk, who also has Belarusian citizenship, remained on the territory of Belarus.
