The number of refugees due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine, in which the eighth day of fighting has already begun, already exceeds one million people, according to the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), Filippo Grandi.
“In just seven days we have witnessed the exodus of one million refugees from Ukraine to neighboring countries“Filippo Grandi said this morning on Twitter.
“For many millions more, inside Ukraine, it is time for the guns to fall silent, so that life-saving humanitarian assistance can be delivered.”

Grandi will assess the situation of the refugees in a visit to Romania, Moldova and Poland, three of the receiving countries, in order to guarantee governments the support of UNHCR, according to what he himself said through the social network Twitter.
More than half of the refugees have gone to Poland and some thousands have already arrived in third countries, such as the Czech Republic, where there is a significant Ukrainian community.
