Ukraine exports electricity to a number of EU countries and is ready to start deliveries to Germany. Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal stated this on September 3 in an interview with DPA.
“Ukraine currently exports its electricity to Moldova, Romania, Slovakia and Poland. But we are quite ready to expand our exports to Germany,” the Prime Minister said.
Shmyhal said that Ukraine has enough electricity thanks to nuclear power plants. He intends to talk about the details of this proposal during a visit to Berlin and Brussels.
The Ukrainian Prime Minister is scheduled to arrive in Berlin on Saturday, September 3 for a meeting with Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz, which is scheduled for September 4.
On February 26, Minister of Energy of Ukraine German Galushchenko signed a decree refusing to join the Russian energy network due to the start of a special operation. The return of the energy system of Ukraine to the network united with Russia and Belarus was scheduled for February 27. Earlier, from 24 to 26 February, a test shutdown was carried out.
Since then, Ukraine has been exporting between 400 and 700 megawatts of electricity to the European Union and Moldova every day, according to Die Welt.
Shmihal announced Ukraine’s desire to increase export quotas for the EU several times. He believes that it would be very good for both sides – the EU will get more energy, and Ukraine the foreign currency it needs.
Earlier, on September 3, a representative of the Federal Network Agency (FSA) of Germany announced the guaranteed reliability of gas supplies to the country.
At the same time, on September 2, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said that Germany cannot afford to completely abandon Russian gas imports. He also said that important processes were launched in the country related to filling storage facilities, commissioning power plants and building LNG terminals.
Prior to this, on August 24, Vice-Chancellor and Economics Minister Robert Habek said that with the onset of autumn in Germany, public buildings will be heated to 19 degrees for the sake of economy. He noted that the energy situation in the country remains tense, so the German Cabinet is introducing new measures that will help save energy.
