Ukraine has nearly 5,000 evidence of Russian war crimes

Ukraine has already collected almost 5,000 evidence of war crimes committed by Russia and presented by citizens, whose testimony is “invaluable”. Since the creation of the unified platform (warcrimes.gov.ua), “citizens have presented 4,935 evidence of crimes of war and crimes against humanity”, says a note from the Attorney General’s Office, published this Wednesday (23) by the Ukrainian news agency Ukrinform.

The system allows the sending of information with photos and videos of war crimes of which the citizen has been a witness or victim, guaranteeing total confidentiality, protection of personal data and preservation of evidence. “The Prosecutor’s Office, state and police agencies, human rights and civil society organizations, experts and specialists, international institutions, journalists and ordinary citizens have the opportunity to act as a united front to document the terrible crimes committed by the Russian aggressor,” the statement said. note.

The Attorney General’s Office stresses the importance of all evidence being collected “in a qualified manner”, following “internationally recognized standards”. as well as by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs at the UN International Court of Justice and by the Ministry of Justice at the European Court of Human Rights, the statement added.

According to the attorney general, Iryna Venediktova, seven countries have already started an investigation into war crimes committed by Russia in Ukraine.
