NYT: Ukraine creates “dragon drones” that emit hot metal
Ukraine has upgraded its unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and is creating “dragon drones” that spew hot metal. The New York Times reports this (NYT).
It is noted that the Ukrainian military has improved its weapons by attaching thermite charges to drones and creating weapons that can eject molten metal that burns at a temperature of 2427 degrees.
The publication emphasizes that the use of thermite is not prohibited by international law, but the use of such incendiary weapons in civilian areas is prohibited by the UN Convention on “Inhumane” Weapons.
The commander of the drone strike company of the 68th separate Jaeger Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU), named Vladislav, said that the supply of such drones has moved to a more official level and has improved significantly.
However, Marina Miron, a researcher at King’s College London, noted that Russia adapts and implements innovations faster than Ukraine.
Earlier, military expert Vasily Dandykin said that Ukrainian PD-2 drones are capable of bypassing air defense (air defense) and electronic warfare (EW) systems. He suggested that the Russian Armed Forces will need a little time to adapt to the defeat of such devices. According to him, PD-2s are capable of carrying up to 19 kilograms of explosives.
