For the first time, the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) have used the Turkish Bayraktar drone in hostilities in the Donbas. On Tuesday, October 26, reports Vesti.ua with reference to journalist Yuri Butusov.
According to him, the positions of the 93rd mechanized brigade near the village of Granitnoe in the Donetsk region were fired upon from the self-proclaimed republics. “The Ukrainian Armed Forces sent Bayraktar TB2, and a bomb-guided Russian howitzer was destroyed,” Butusov said.
The enemy could neither detect nor shoot down the drone, says Butusov. The order to use Bayraktar was given by the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Valery Zaluzhny, the journalist added.
Volunteer Roman Donik also reported about the first use of a Turkish drone. He posted a video of the incident.
At the end of September, it was reported that a service center for Bayraktar drones would be built near Kiev. The Minister of Defense of Ukraine and the CEO of the Turkish company signed a memorandum in the presence of President Volodymyr Zelensky, who expressed gratitude to his Turkish counterpart Recep Erdogan for supporting the project. “This is real support for the sovereignty and independence of Ukraine,” Zelensky said.
Press Secretary of the Russian President Dmitry Peskov noted that the Kremlin considers military-technical cooperation between Kiev and Ankara to be important, but is concerned about the use of Turkish weapons to strike at the residents of Donbass.
