The Ukrainian Armed Forces will defend themselves from the Russian army in the vicinity of Enerhodar, where there are six Soviet-era nuclear power reactors. This is what a local statement says, according to a Kyiv Post publication.

Anton Heraschenko, deputy interior minister, said that Enerhodar’s nuclear power reactors have a superstructure resistant to virtually all weapons. Even so, “fighting in the vicinity of the reactors could damage the transmission of electricity and the reactors’ cooling equipment,” he added.

Heraschenko also warned of the danger of radiation leakage if the region is attacked. Ukraine was the scene of the world’s worst nuclear power accident in 1986, when two reactors at the Chernobyl plant went out of control. The radiation spread across Europe.
